The Trip
The overview.
The Devil's River is the most remote river in Texas, spring-fed and crystal clear, running through the chalk hills west of Del Rio. There are no roads along most of it, so we paddle in, camp on the banks, and fish water that almost no one else touches.
This is a smallmouth bass trip, not a trout trip, but it is the best warm-water fishing we do. The water is clear enough to sight-fish, and the fish are aggressive. You will work for it, and you will remember it.
