The Trip
The overview.
Every autumn the Kokanee salmon, a landlocked sockeye, push out of Blue Mesa Reservoir and up the Gunnison to spawn. By late September the river is full of red fish holding in the green water, and the streamer fishing is the most addicting thing we do all year.
We float out of Almont, with two guides and riverside cabins for the week. This is a bigger, colder, more technical trip than the others, and the fish pull like they have somewhere to be.
